Petition Letter
I am writing an appeal to have STAT 263, taken in the Winter Term 2015, dropped from my record so that I may continue my academic pursuits. It was only during the preparation of the submission of the appeal that I learned of the 21 day limit on such requests. I was advised by David Youssef, the Academic Advisor for Distance Learning Students, to pursue the appeal process.
To say that this is coming in past the deadline is a gross understatement, yet here I am, hat in hand, asking for an exception.
Being overwhelmed by family commitments and ignorance of the rules aren't extenuating circumstance, per se, but that's the only excuse I have. I wholeheartedly admit that I have nobody to blame but myself, and hope that you will read on anyway.
As a mature student with a business to run and two young children I simply did not give the rules surrounding the dates and deadlines the due care attention that is required.
I made a mistake, and then I hoped it would disappear. I didn't give the Queen's commitment to academic excellence the respect it deserves. For that, I am truly sorry. I can say that if this request and my subsequent appeal are granted, I will be a credit to the Queen's University Distance Learning program.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my plea.
Sincerely,
Julia Warrender
