Petition Letter
I have decided that I would like to appeal to take my third year of undergraduate study at another institution. The Trent-In-Ghana program through Trent University will provide me with a full years worth of academic learning in the country of Ghana in West Africa. The course that I take will be through Trent, and will count as Trent credits, but will be taught by academic professionals living and teaching in Ghana.
The Trent-in-Ghana (TIG) Program combines in-class instruction offered by Ghanaian academics and professionals in Term 1 with experiential learning from a 12 week placement with a development organization in Term 2. Students spend a full academic year in Ghana, from September until the end of April, participate in several field trips, and work for twelve weeks with a development organization. Ghanaian academics and development professionals will provide the instruction.
I stumbled upon the Trent-in Ghana program completely by accident. After searching extensively for a study abroad opportunity that appealed to me, I came upon TIG, and instantly new it was the perfect fit. My reasons for applying to the program are very simple. I love what I am learning at Queen¿¿s, but am itching to see it with my own eyes. The Trent-in-Ghana program offers the experience of living and learning in a developing country, but also allows me to experience working for an NGO, which is what I aspire to do as a career. I personally believe that this program is perfect for giving me greater insight into third world development and will introduce me to the workings of Non-Governmental Organizations.
Ultimately, I believe that taking my third year of academic studies at the TIG program will give me a better insightful experience into the field of development work. The experience and knowledge that I obtain abroad will be beneficial and helpful in continuing my fourth year of study at Queen's university.
