I am writing to you today to request a waive of the 21-day appeal regulation. I did not appeal within the required timelines because of my poor health. I was unable to care for myself properly and take the required steps to prevent this current situation. For the past four years, I have been coping with mental illness along with other health issues. I suffer from depression and anxiety, which I have been taking medication for, as well as attending psychotherapy treatment in Toronto with Dr. Wagnar at the Centre for Person Centred Psychotherapy. Further, I had to get an emergency appendectomy during the Fall 2014 exam period. Also, this past October I was diagnosed with narcolepsy, which I am also treating with medication.
If you approve my appeal to waive the 21-day appeal regulation, I will be asking for an extension for 6 classes with outstanding work. Due to extenuating circumstances, I was unable to finish parts of the coursework. I am appealing for extensions for coursework in: ARTH 311 and IDIS 290 that I was enrolled in during the Fall 2014 term and ARTH 375, IDIS 210, and ARTH 228 that I was enrolled in during the Winter 2015 term.
With the chance to finish this coursework, I will be able to graduate with my class in June. I hope to complete all outstanding work. I have the support of the professors in all the classes, including Dr. Stephanie Dickey, Art History Undergraduate Chair.
Thank you for your time,
Brittany Oates
