Petition Letter
I am appealing to return to studies after a requirement to withdraw for three years has lapsed, in order order to complete my BA in Philosophy. As it stands, I am one half year course from meeting the requirements to complete the degree, and I have spoken via email with the faculty of arts and sciences about the matter.
My academic performance slipped to the extent that I was required to withdraw for three years largely because of the depression I was struggling with at the time, and while I was at Queen¿¿s I was working to address that via personal counselling offered through the university. While it doesn¿¿t seem like the sort of challenge that will disappear forever, I have continued with counselling and therapy after leaving Queen¿¿s.
Indeed, after I withdrew in 2010 I went on to complete an undergraduate degree in England - I want to emphasize that none of my credits from Queen¿¿s were transferred for that degree, nor did I ever seek to do so. I also understand that none of my studies from that degree will transfer to Queen¿¿s in the case I am granted this appeal, and I had no intention of seeking that transfer either. I bring this up chiefly to show that I have been able to sufficiently mitigate my depression and its related challenges to undertake undergraduate successfully, and I believe I can do so again at Queen¿¿s if given the opportunity.
¿¿I have been in contact with the faculty of arts and sciences for advice on the matter, who confirmed all of this according to regulation 13.5.2 - Academic Regulations Resulting from RTW3. As I am only one half year course from completing the requirements for a three year degree, I would ideally like to undertake a summer course via distance education, as I am currently working part time in Mississauga, ON, and will be doing so throughout the summer. If that unfeasible, I would consider either on-campus study or the fall term - at this point I would simply like to complete my degree and Queen¿¿s and salvage what I can of the years from 2005-2010.
