Petition Letter
Dr. Johanne Bénard,
Unfortunately, In fall of 2015 I became addicted to medications I had been prescribed to help me deal with my anxiety. The addiction itself along with the recovery process I have been actively engaged in since first seeking help have taken an immense toll on me and affected my studies very negatively. It is for this reason that I ask for an appeal to drop the courses I took in first semester without academic penalty.
I spent much of first semester working with an addictions team and seeing a therapist to get the help I needed. As I am still not in a condition where I can be self-sufficient or pursue academics, I have taken the winter term off and spent it at home.
Although the situation with my health began very severe, I have made great strides in my recovery in the past months and hope to return to Queen's in the fall.
Thank you for your consideration,
James Guscott
