Academic Plan
In order to achieve success next year at Queen's University, I plan to consistently email my current clinical dieticians Sheron Phillips and Tina Healey, and also my Endocrinologist Dr. Laila Bishara. Also, being from Toronto, I can book in person appointments every few months to ensure I am always on the right track. By doing so, we can constantly keep in contact throughout the school year on managing my diabetes and making changes to my lifestyle and insulin dosages if it need be. I also keep in contact with my new family doctor, Dr. Susmita Esufali, whom offers me plenty of support on managing my diabetes. In terms of my course load, I plan to ease myself into my new transition by enrolling myself into three classes per semester as a part-time student. To raise my GPA, I plan on retaking 2 courses in which I achieved a D- and D, being Math 126 and Statistics 250. I feel that with my new healthy life style and state of mind, not only will I be achieving a better grade in these courses to raise my GPA, but they will also entail a better base of knowledge of economics for myself, which I feel I could benefit largely from. My number one goal for next year is to enable myself to live a healthier lifestyle. With this will come the initiative and motivation to do well in all of my courses. To further enable myself to do better, I am using the Queen's University online resources to help myself with such things as time-management, motivation, and focusing. In terms of time-management, I will be creating a schedule that surrounds my class schedule, and ensure I am applying enough time needed towards school, and living a healthy lifestyle. Personally, the online resources may not be enough of a hands on experience to properly learn different ways of managing my academic career, so I plan to attend the workshops at Queen's once the schedules are released in September. I will be attending the improving time-management workshop, the motivation and procrastination workshop, and the focus and distractions workshop, which I feel is most important because it relates to my health. I have also set goals for myself, being as followed: Manage my diabetes properly to ensure a healthy lifestyle, utilize my new skills learnt from the Queen's resources and workshops to uplift my GPA above the probation line, and treating school like it is my full-time job, always being my number one priority. With where I stand, I will be booking an appointment in September with an academic councillor to discuss better ways to approach the fall semester in order to become successful. With my new healthy lifestyle, I am ready and motivated to remove myself from probation and complete my degree in good standing.
