Petition Letter
Dear, Associate Dean¿¿s Studies representative,
I am writing this letter to you because I recently found out that i had underperformed in my academic studies at Queen¿¿s University. As a result of this my overall average is below the passing threshold. In order to solve this issue i contacted the Arts and Science Office and and booked an appointment with an academic advisor so that i can evaluate my options and retake my failed courses. The advisor told me that I may retake the courses, but i may be asked to withdraw. However because i have external reasons for this i should Appeal to Drop my courses to the Associate Dean's Office so that i can continue my studies in September.
When I was accepted at Queen's University i was excited but at the same time a little nervous. Before i got accepted at Queens my high school average was well above the acceptance point and moreover I engaged in various extracurricular activities. However after the midterms i was experiencing abnormal sleeping patterns and elevated stress. After this i had a blood check up, and I was informed that I had Anemia and that I was Pre Diabetic (I have attached documentation below). After my high school term was over, my marks had slipped, but not enough for my acceptance to be revoked. Nonetheless, I was getting better, however i had to obey a strict diet, something that was not possible to do due to the cafeteria food. Once in university I started experiencing all of my previous symptoms such as stress abnormal sleeping and tiredness, but stronger and twice as bad. I told my parents about this and asked for advice regarding this. I asked if i should drop my courses and come home, they gave me the best advice they could and said that i was almost done and that there was already too much on the line. I still had a passing chance but then, unexpectedly, right before exams my wisdom teeth were infected with unimaginable pain. I contacted all of the dentists in Kingston in order to have them removed as soon as possible however none had an available timeslot, the best they could do is prescribe me antibiotics that would take at least three days to take effect and even then the teeth would have to be removed. The closest available slot was in four days time. Because of this i had to go to Toronto and have them removed there( I have attached documentation). Due to these extenuating circumstances i underperformed in my courses. I know that this seems unfortunate but i have always been determined to succeed. Fortunately, i have been getting better and been going to my local library every day so that i can receive the grades that i know i can get without the stress and pain i had previously endured. I am on a very strict medication and diet now and i am determined more than ever.
All I ask is that after i complete retaking my courses, that the university would allow me to pursue my academic studies at Queen's University by dropping my failed courses. I know that i have the capacity, motivation and determination to succeed at Queens. Finally, if it's not too much to ask feel free to write back to me and ask me for more information on anything else you would like to know.
