Petition Letter
To whom it may concern:
I am applying for an appeal for my PSYC203 class. The past semester was extremely hard due to my fluctuating mental health. I have attached my accommodation letter, which I did not have until late February due to my own stigma disallowing me to accept accommodations when I needed it. I have depression and as of this past week my dosage has been increased due to the challenges I faced this semester.
In December I had an attempted suicide and in February I was taken to KGH due to a near overdose. The depression contributed to a lack of motivation, hypersomnia, lack of focus, back pain, and social withdrawal.
I did not participate to the best of my ability and due to that failed to hand in our second major assignment completely. My attendance to all classes was poor due to my depression. I tried my best to complete the course and talked to my TA, Josh Guyer, about the issue. He suggested I contact my professor to see if I could use the grade of my first assignment to make up for the second however, I contacted him via email, as did Josh, and I still have not received a reply. This was in March when my assignment was due. I have received an IN in another one of my courses due to my illness rendering me unable to complete the course.
I have taken definitive steps in my mental health to improve my focus and motivation. However, this is a long multi-stepped plan. I have been seeing a doctor as much as I can. I have a passion for psychology and this grade did not in any way reflect my ability or knowledge in the course. I did not receive the grade I wanted in the accompanying class PSYC202 and I did not get it appealed however I am taking another STATs course over the summer to make up for it. I want to graduate in four years with a thesis and believe I can do that if I am able to appeal this grade and receive either an estimated grade or a pass.
I appreciate any and all consideration. I apologize for not working up to my full potential but I am taking steps in order to change that. I would like to move forward and I studied for this course heavily. It was extremely hard during my exam phase and the last months of school. I would not like this to reflect badly on my capabilities.
