Academic Plan
With regards to my academic plan, I was aware that the failing grade I had received in MUSC 101 in first year was creating a large issue, so Dr. Donald and I discussed appealing the grade, but in the meantime, made a plan for what to do if the appeal was denied. This plan was to retake the failed class this coming semester (fall 2016) to boost my GPA, and take a class online this summer to ensure I was staying on track with graduation and staying in the learning environment so that my GPA does not deteriorate after a long summer of no classwork (an issue that would be even more detrimental, if I were forced to take a year off from my studies). Another aspect to the plan we made was dropping one class that I had been taking at the time (GPHY 228), to retake it, this upcoming semester, due to a language barrier with the professor. After making this academic plan, my GPA has improved from 1.3 to 1.52 in just one semester, which is remarkable in my eyes for a student with learning disabilities. Along with this academic plan, I have written confirmation from Dr. Betsy Donald who is the Associate Head of Undergraduate Studies, that I am eligible for a degree program. This documentation is an email, and will be mailed to the faculty's office along with other supporting documentation. Currently the class I am enrolled in, is directly following the plan, which to date, has been successful. I am confident that the class I am enrolled in (GPHY 227), can positively impact my GPA, and bring it to 1.60. This past year while seeking help to create an academic plan, I found a tutor for three days a week, which has made a significant difference in my academic success. I truly believe that if I am made to take a year off of my studies, all of my positive progress will be lost, and I ultimately will be in a worse position. I hope that in the future, I am able to look back on my experience at Queens, and recognize how the school has supported my success.
