Petition Letter
Hello,
My name is Artem Shlyakhtov, my academic number is 10059728. I am writing to you because I have been required to withdraw from the Faculty of Arts and Science for a minimum of three years and I believe I have a convincing argument for why this requirement is invalid or at the very least unjust.
My cumulative GPA to this point is 1.59 and a requirement for me to withdraw for absolutely any amount of time requires that I was on academic probation for the 2015/2016 academic year. The only way one can possibly argue that I was on academic probation is with any student who has been required to withdraw and returns to studies is automatically placed on academic probation. During the 2014/2015 academic year I was in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at Queens on probation. After 2014/2015 I transferred to the Faculty of Arts and Science with a cumulative GPA of 1.85 and was still in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering as I applied to transfer. Despite this GPA I was simultaneously required to withdraw from the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. Unlike any previous years I was on probation in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, I was never notified that I was not in good academic standing during the 2015/2016 academic year. Yes, I was required to withdraw and this requirement was never appealed, but I did come back study at Queen's the very next semester. I was still technically required to withdraw from the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering while I did my 2015/2016 academic year, so the only reasonable way I can think to interpret academic regulations is to say that a student has completely independent statuses in separate faculties, meaning my requirement to withdraw from the Applied Science and Engineering and simultaneous transfer to Arts and Science could not have counted as required to withdraw and returns to studies. Thus I was never on academic probation during the 2015/2016 academic year and should be allowed to study at the Faculty of Arts and Science during the 2016/2017 academic year and should be put on academic probation only now due to my 1.59 cumulative GPA.
Thank you for patience,
Artem Shlyakhtov
