Dear Associate Dean of Art and Science,
I am writing to respond to a letter I received, dated May 31, 2016, from the Department of Financial Services at Queen¿¿s University indicating that I owe 6, 318.94, which is outstanding for more than 90 days. ¿¿
I wish to inform you that I am not a student at Queen¿¿s University and I have never attended Queen¿¿s University for classes during the 2015-2016 academic year. I am a full-time student at University of Ottawa, where I am enrolled in the BA Honours, International Development and Globalization program. My University of Ottawa Student Number is 6764487. Please see attached my Grade Reports of the Fall and Winter Sessions at University of Ottawa as proof of my enrolment there. I am currently studying at the University of Ottawa in the Spring-Summer Session. I will complete my 4 Year degree program in April 2017 from University of Ottawa. Please see my T2200A4 for proof of tuition paid to University of Ottawa.¿¿
I wish to acknowledge that I did accept an offer to attend Queen¿¿s University in the spring of 2015 to enable me to continue my health care at KGH in Kingston. I was diagnosed with a Crohn¿¿s Disease in September of 2014. Through ongoing consultation with my doctors, I learned that I could receive my medical treatments (Remicade Infusions) in Ottawa and continue with my degree as originally planned. Thus, I decided to return to the University of Ottawa to complete my degree. ¿¿
Upon making that decision with my family, I notified Queen¿¿s University by telephone to withdraw my registration. It was my understanding that when I made this phone call, my registration for the academic courses I was enrolled in at Queen¿¿s would be cancelled. I also emailed Bianca Bruni at Queen¿¿s to withdraw my direction for OSAP from Queen¿¿s University to University of Ottawa where I would be studying. Please see email attached. ¿¿
It was my understanding that I had fully withdrawn from Queen¿¿s University. For this reason, I did not use my Queen¿¿s University email account until I received a notice from the Finance Department at Queen¿¿s stating an outstanding balance of 6, 318.94 on May 31, 2016. I became aware of this problem through an email I received to my University of Ottawa email account. Your IT department can verify that I did not log onto my Queen¿¿s email account. They can also confirm that I requested assistance to reactivate my netID account as it was not an active account. Furthermore, I never obtained a Queen¿¿s student card.¿¿
Please accept this letter and supporting documentation as my appeal to have the outstanding balance dropped. I believe that the attached information shows that I did not attend Queen¿¿s University. I am a full-time student at University of Ottawa. I apologize for the confusion this may have caused. ¿¿
