Academic Plan
If permitted to return, I plan on implementing major changes to avoid obstacles to academic success. As a full-time student, I will take the minimum requirement of nine units per term during the Fall 2016, Winter 2017, and Summer 2017 terms. The lighter course load will make my workload much more manageable. In future years of study, I wish to pursue a degree in Gender Studies and Sociology. In order to meet those needs, I have been re-taking Socy 122 and Gnds 125 over the summer online. I plan to repeat failed first year courses (Gnds 120 and Psych 100) while also taking supporting courses in Religion and Economics./
I did not have difficulty with the course content, however I struggled to maintain good work ethic and submit assignments. I enjoyed the material, especially for my Gender Studies courses. However, I experienced very low motivation and high anxiety, which caused me to miss classes and fail to complete assignments. To overcome motivation and procrastination issues, I intend to use the services at Student Academic Success Services such as the Writing Centre and Learning Strategies Counselors to improve time management and to help stay on top of coursework. I also aim to regularly consult with the course professor or Teaching Assistants should I require help with course content or assignments. Alongside academic support, I plan to seek assistance from counselors at Student Wellness Services or a therapist in the Kingston area routinely. I believe that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Mindfulness techniques will help me to achieve and maintain good mental health./
Fortunately, I have the financial support of my parents meaning that I will be able to devote all my time into improving my academic performance and taking care of my mental health. By following through on my academic plan, I am confident that I will be able to overcome the obstacles faced previously./
