Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Johanne Bénard,
I am Janine Fung (06238991) appealing the Faculty and Board of Studies¿¿ decision that I must withdraw from Queen¿¿s for a minimum of three years at the time of assessment after my Winter 2013 semester and request to Return to Studies before the Requirement to Withdraw for Three Years has lapsed. I have previously failed to be granted an appeal in September 2013. I did not appeal the Board¿¿s decision in September of 2013 within 21 days as they provided valuable input; therefore, I took some time off to focus on the feedback given and work towards making myself a better candidate to attend Queen¿¿s again.
I have demonstrated that extenuating circumstances have indeed impeded my academic performance in my previous appeals, but failed to provide a successful academic plan to optimize my academic success in the future. In the past, I have failed to achieve adequate marks in courses due to the combination of my anxiety, poor attendance, psychological issues associated with my mother being suicidal after my uncle¿¿s death, and lack of motivation in first year. Not attending Queen¿¿s for one year has allowed me to personally grow, acquire a greater academic drive, and take all the feedback from the Board of Studies to look into a realistic academic plan. Although, my mother still refuses to seek professional help, we have worked on our relationship that has drastically improved. Additionally, I have been dealing with my anxiety more efficiently and plan to continue working on it with my counsellor. Furthermore, in the past few months, although I understand that none of these credits are valid to transfer on to my Queen¿¿s transcript, I have taken a few courses online to prove that I am self-motivated to perform academically and my marks so far have reflected that.
