Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean of Studies:
I am writing for permission to appeal past the 21 day appeal deadline after receiving the final grade for the reason of ongoing clinical depression. Since the end of 2009, I have been experiencing major depressive disorder and anxiety disorder. The continued interference of my depression and anxiety persisted to the extent that my parents made the decision to remove me from Queen's University, in order to take time off of school to recover. During that time, I was very ill and not functioning as a normal person would. As such, my mental capacity precluded me from appealing to drop the courses I did not finish, also due to depression, within the ordinary time frame.
I have, since then, made major steps towards recovery. While the depression and anxiety is still present, I was functional enough to return to school this year with a reduced course load. I am also working diligently with my psychiatrist and other mental health care professionals to minimize the impact of my illness on my studies. I hope wholeheartedly that you will grant me my request to appeal.
Sincerely,
Angela Chung
