Petition Letter
Hi,
I'm appealing to drop the 2016 Summer course of HIST 260 - Canada from Conquest to Present CDS due to extenuating circumstances at my job.
I started a new job this summer in the field of archaeology and was not aware when I began that work days would often be longer than 8 hours with added travel time (up to 4 hours), however I decided to remain with the course and attempt to continue my studies. Recently, we lost half of our crew members to new jobs, resulting in going from a team of 7 to a team of 3. This has made work much more demanding physically to try and make up for the missing crew members, and has also added an amount of stress and anxiety as a reaction to the change. Due to financial situations, I cannot afford to work less hours or change jobs and as this is a new job in a professional field I do not feel comfortable bringing it up with boss due to the stigma around mental illness. The culmination of all of this has greatly reduced the time I am able to complete readings, due dates or be available for the amount of group-work required for this course.
I plan to re-take a course in Canadian History to fulfill the 6 unit requirement for my History Minor, however I plan to do so in the Fall/Winter when I am able to dedicate full time to my studies and will not be working a job. I am hoping to go to Graduate School and a failed course on my transcript will greatly hinder my chances at doing so.
As such, I am requesting to be able to drop this course as to not fail it. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
