Academic Plan
Future Plan:
I was fortunate to attend the Amen clinic in New York, NY in May and was identified with ADHD and depression at that time. A comprehensive therapy plan was created and recommended and I have been working to implement it this summer.
I would like to return this September 2016 to Queen¿¿s. I will take a lighter course load, I am thinking 3 courses. I will continue to take the medication that I started this summer and the vitamins that were recommended by the Amen Clinic. I have been exercising all summer and will continue to do so as this helps me with my depression. I would like to connect with student supports and obtain some therapy to help me with the depression and to manage any challenges that I come upon during the academic year. I am happy to work with an academic advisor, university counsellors and physician services.
My parents are very supportive and one of them is willing to come and live in the Kingston area with me if I begin to have difficulty again. I also have a cousin and his wife living in Kingston who will be there to provide support and to help me maintain my good eating and vitamin habits. I will live with close friends in a home near the university in a first floor room. One friend in particular is supportive and I have a great group of friends overall. I am going to join at least one social group and attend on a regular basis.
All of these activities will support my academic goals as I have learned that I have to work to manage the depression and many of the strategies I have learned also help me to manage the ADHD. I will be better able to focus and with a routine, good sleep, eating habits and consistent exercise, I am hoping that I will have a full academic year without the depression affecting my academic performance.
Thank you, Thomas Parker
