Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am writing to request waiving the 21 day appeal deadline. This is in regards to the deadline of June 14th, 2016 to appeal having to withdraw for one year.
I am requesting this deadline be waived due to several extenuating circumstances that took place during this academic year and during the summer months. My mother passed away in March. A month later in April my best friend was murdered. I also have a severe chronic health condition which has required several hospitalizations, especially during the summer. With all these things combined, I have experienced impaired concentration, focus, and energy. I have been dealing with mental heath difficulties: anxiety and difficulty sleeping. Due to my chronic physical health problem, I experienced severe chronic pain during flares. This summer was particularly difficult due to being hospitalized multiple times. During these times I was barely able to function due to pain and lack of mobility. I unfortunately was not well enough to deal with my own affairs. This is why I was unable to meet the deadline of June 14th, 2016.
It has only been recently that my doctors and I have seen significant improvement in my physical and mental heath. This is due to new treatments being administered and adjustments made to previous ones. Should this appeal be granted, I will file another appeal to appeal the request for me to withdraw for one year due to extenuating circumstances beyond my control. Documentation from more than on professional has been submitted with this appeal.
