Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
My name is Bogdan Kunovac, and I just finished my first year at Queen's. I am from Halifax, and I chose Queen's because I thought it would be the best school for me. However, Queen¿¿s is a great school, but mentally and emotionally I was not ready for that step. I have been diagnosed with PTSD (through symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as insomnia). I had many issues in junior high, early high school, and my soccer team with bullying, and it has held me back ever since. These issues did not impact my grades near the end of high school because I was at home and my parents helped me stay on track, but when I was at Queen¿¿s it became too difficult to deal with it on my own. I just very recently (August 10th) told my parents what has been going on and we have found a psychology clinic to try to help me through EMDR. The reason I could not focus on my school work was because of the depression and anxiety, and because my sleep was severely affected. I was consistently unable to fall asleep until 4 to 5 am every day, and thus I would sleep until the late afternoon. I decided early August that I would transfer to a university in Halifax so that I can get treatment for my illness. By then it was too late to drop my summer courses. My winter term course of STAT 263 was deferred for me because I was sick for the week leading up to it. Professor Charles Molson allowed me to take the exam in September, but as I won't be a Queen's student anymore, I won't able to write it, so that is why I am asking to have it dropped. My whole academic year at Queen's was impacted by my PTSD that I was too scared to seek help for. I hope that at least my Stats course and my two summer courses will be able to be dropped as to not further ruin my academic goals. Thank you very much for the consideration.
Best regards,
Bogdan Kunovac
