Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
My name is Vinothini Varnarajan (06342050) and I am currently a 3rd year student in the HLTH-M-BAH plan.
I am appealing to late drop four courses, BIOL103, CHEM113, HLTH333, and PSYC100, without academic penalty, on the basis of a serious medical illness which required me to take the entire 2015 year off of school, to move back home to Toronto into the care of my family.
I have been struggling with a severe illness which began late 2014 and the entirety of 2015. My illness worsened and I became hospitalized in September 2015. Unfortunately due to my extenuating circumstances, I was unable to complete any of my courses.
I was too ill to initiate my appeal within the 30-day deadline, in fact, I was only recently well-enough to begin to think about returning to school at all. My inability to complete my courses was strictly due to my serious illness which I had no control over.
I will be registered with Queen's Disability Services upon my return to school, and I will be seeing my doctor on a regular weekly basis to monitor my health. I will also be taking a reduced course-load of just one or two courses as I re-acclimate myself to being back in school. I miss the sense of purpose that school gave me during my time off this year. Being a student was my only identity that I really owned.
