Petition Letter
This summer there was a death in my family. My grandfather passed away on August 1st after a serious and painful illness (prostate cancer that spread throughout his entire body) and for me this loss was huge. I spent the summer with my family caring for him and suffering emotionally myself. This is not the first cancer diagnosis in my immediate family and I had an incredibly difficult time dealing with that as well as coping with the inevitable, huge loss I was about to experience. My grandpa is my soulmate. Our bond is something that I truly do not believe many people ever get to experience, and losing him felt like a was losing a huge part of myself. His death was devastating.
After his death I was a mess. Only now have I started to feel like myself again. The reason why he paid for my education is because education was one of the most important things in world to him. I promised him I would continue my studies in September but two factors got in the way. First, I have been grieving and have been sort of going through motions. I have not been thinking clearly about school, deadlines, and what I need to do (because I have been trying to heal after his death). Secondly, in moments when I was really ready to register I felt that it was wildly inappropriate to ask my grandmother about the payments for my last semester and this current one shortly after she lost her husband of 63 years. What I did not know was that I could have registered even without having paid for my outstanding fees and this semester's fees. I only just spoke to her about the payments and called David Youssef to discuss this entire situation, whereupon he told me I could have registered with an outstanding balance. Unfortunately, I was in no state to call and find this out earlier, so I have missed the deadline to add a course.
Now I know that it's too late to add a course however I am absolutely desperate to. I'm scared I'm not going to finish my degree if I don't keep doing it right now and it's stressing me out beyond belief. I truly hope it is possible to register for this course past the deadline.
David Youssef suggested that I request permission from the Professor as well as it may strengthen my appeal. I have emailed Professor Dussault and am just waiting for her response, however as I understand it this is an extra measure and not a requirement.
