Petition Letter
My name is Vinothini Varnarajan and I am a 3rd year Health Studies student returning back to school after a one year medical leave of absence. I am writing this appeal to request to add courses after the academic deadline. The courses I am appealing to late-register are HLTH 315, HLTH 332, HLTH 333 and DEVS 100.
I was unable to add courses before the deadline due to a hold on my account. Although I have set up appointments before the last day to add/drop courses with my academic advisor David Yousseff, due to unforeseen circumstances (illness) the appointments had been cancelled. The hold was placed on my account due to not paying my tuition fees. I was unable to pay my tuition fees due to an error caused by the financial aid department which affected the release of my OSAP. I still have not received any funding from OSAP even though I was reassured it will be assessed and processed. Currently I have no financial support, but I was fortunate enough to get assistance from the Ban Righ Centre by granting me an emergency bursary. Once I received the money, I immediately paid the amount required to remove the hold on my account. The hold on my account was removed on Friday, September 30th.
I am writing this appeal to kindly be granted my request to be late registered into my courses. In order for me to take the required courses for my degree and complete my program I will need to take the fall term courses listed above. If I am unable to take these courses it will set me back approximately three more years to complete my studies, which I cannot afford. My medical condition has already caused me a big setback and now that I have returned after taking some time off, I am ready to continue my education and complete my studies.
My transition back to Kingston, after taking one year off from school to be under the care of my family due to medical reasons, has not been easy. I am still trying my best to keep my spirits up in the hopes of starting my classes soon, despite all the disappointments I¿¿ve had so far during my first three weeks back.
