Petition Letter
To the Associate Dean of Studies,
I am appealing to waive the 21-day deadline for an academic appeal, such that I may submit an appeal in regards to drop a handful of courses from my 2014-2015 year.
I was unable to complete the appeal during the 21-day period due to extenuating circumstances involving my own mental health as well as my relationship with my parents. At the end of the 2015 winter term, I was struggling with severe amounts of personal and academic stress, as well as external stress from my parents who frequently urged me to complete the appeal in question. I felt completely overwhelmed and unable to cope with the situation which resulted in withdrawing and avoiding the issue instead of confronting it. I had initially started learning about the appeal process after speaking with Vicky Andrews and Sarah Horsford about my situation and seeking guidance from them about how to rectify the situation (supporting documentation to follow). Unfortunately, I was unable to complete the appeal on time due to my mental state, and because I was feeling constantly overwhelmed by the situation and the added stressor of my parents constantly pushing it on me and bringing it up.
If my appeal is granted, I will be able to follow through and submit an academic appeal for the years in question. This appeal will be used to remove a handful of failures from my transcript, which will then allow me to continue to pursue my academic career at Queen's now that I have adjusted my course load and program to be able to succeed more effectively.
Thank you for your consideration.
