Petition Letter
To whomever this may concern,
I would like to make an appeal to withdraw from the fall/winter courses Keyboard Harmony 1 (MUSC129)and Keyboard Accompaniment 1 (MUSC261). Due to health circumstances, I am unable to complete the full term of these courses.
In the beginning of November, I began to become very ill. Trying to recover from the flu and cold, I began to form a lump in my throat. This lump is a large mass cyst that will have to be surgically removed or drained by a specialist. I went to a walk in clinic to see a doctor about my throat immediately in mid November. I got tested for strep throat twice and it came back negative; additionally, I got tested for mono and it was negative. I scheduled an appointment with my home doctor, Dr. Boeckner, for an assessment and for a referral to get an ultrasound done at Winchester District Hospital on January 21, 2017. I went to the emergency room on Kemptville District Hospital on January 7, 2017, as I was having extreme difficulties with my health. I got an ultrasound done and the doctor said I have to get an official ultrasound done to confirm my diagnosis of a Thoroglossal Cyst.I am having a lot of difficulty with: eating, drinking, and sometimes breathing. I am awaiting a call from my home doctor for a possible reassessment to get into the hospital sooner for an ultrasound. This is negatively impacting my health, attendance, motivation, and grades.
Originally, I appealed to get into MUSC129 due to anxiety issues. Once I got accepted into the class, I was only able to attend one class in November, as I fell very ill with the flu, cold, and this cyst. I have not been able to complete any testings for this course; therefore, I have to drop this course. I plan to enroll in this course when I return the following year in better health. Additionally, I have received a warning from my professor from MUSC261 that I cannot reschedule testings. At this point, my health is very unpredictable. I would feel more comfortable withdrawing from this course, and I feel I would do a lot better in the course in better health.
I have been in communication with Dr. Stephanie Lind and my other professors about my condition as well. I am currently receiving guidance from Dr. Lind in course selections.
Due to extenuating circumstances and my unpredictable health during this time, I am not physically well enough to continue with MUSC129 and MUSC261.
Thank you for your time,
Kayla Droppo
