Petition Letter
I am appealing to drop the courses ECON 331 and ECON 370. The extenuating circumstance that prevented me from completing these courses in the fall was a concussion in which I suffered late August. During my initial recovery I followed the concussion protocol recommended by my doctor. I was not in Kingston for the first two weeks of class because I was recovering at home. My recovery seemed to be going well and I was eager to attend Queen¿¿s in the fall. I decided to register for courses on the last possible date (the second Friday) and was in Kingston the next week. I took a limited course load and my concussion wasn¿¿t much of a problem during the first few weeks of class. My symptoms started to worsen in early October and the recovery was downhill from there as I returned home in mid November for good. As documentation I received a doctor's note in October stating that I needed extensions on my midterm exams but I can ask for a new one if needed. I dropped ECON 391 right before the October 31st deadline and thought I was going to be able to manage to complete the other two other courses I was taking (ECON 331 and ECON 370) but that wasn¿¿t the case.
I was recovering at home for most of November and saw a neurologist at the Toronto Western hospital in early December. Since then my symptoms have improved and I have returned to Queen¿¿s this semester managing three courses. I have been very careful about what I do on a day to day basis and will continue to do so. Exercise was recommended by my neurologist and so I have been using the stationary bike at the ARC everyday and I have a follow up appointment at the Toronto Western hospital this weekend. I still experience dull pressure from time to time and will monitor drop dates going forward if I experience any setbacks and need to return home again. Hopefully the faculty is understanding of my situation in the fall and these courses can be removed from my transcript.
