Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern,
I am appealing to Econ231(Fall,2016) with a Credit Standing on my transcript.
My roommate Weiyu(Rachel) Zhang passed away last semester on November, and I was affected a lot both on my mental health and my academic performance. I spent some time to meet with her parents and brothers, went to Toronto a few times for her memorial, and helped to hold her memorial in Queen's. It took up my time which I should have spent on preparing my final paper of Econ231. After I came back and prepared to have my normal life, it was time for final exams, and I got 5 exams last semester, so I had no time for finishing the final paper. At that time, I was so upset that I cannot even got back to our apartment, and I could only live with my other friends. I was crashed and cried every day, and I even started to drink alcohol. I ate a lot even I wasn't hungry. And then I found that my mental health was not good, and I needed someone to help me, so I went to the Student Wellness Service and had a conversation with a personal counselor. It did help, but the counselor told me that it needs time to get well. After that, I tried my best to focus on my final exams and had no time and chance to finish my final paper. And for this semester, I also got five classes to finish, so I don't want this paper to influence my academic performance this semester, thus I'm trying to applying for appeal to Econ231.
The death of my roommate is sad, but it also changed my life. I'm trying so hard to accept it, and trying my best to back to my normal life. And I decided to live both for myself and her. I will talk to personal counselors for a few more times, and adjust myself as soon as possible. And if I successfully appeal to Econ231, I will not be so stressful, and can focus better on the courses this semester. I will accomplish my degree plan, and expecting to graduating on 2019 as before. Also I'm going to exchange to Chinese University of Hong Kong in winter 2018, I believe this will be a really good chance for me to real get better in a new circumstance, and also can help me with my academic plan. I will prove myself as an outstanding student in Queen's University in the future.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Jiawen Meng
