Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I am requesting to drop one of my courses past the drop deadline due to unforeseen extenuating circumstances. Over the past 3 weeks, I have been dealing with mental health issues, caused by excessive family conflict, that have impaired me from attending class and performing other every-day tasks. My health problems have caused me to miss numerous classes, disabled me from focusing on course material and from performing well on midterms and assignments. I strongly believe that dropping one of my courses will reduce some of the strain that I have been dealing with and allow me to finish the rest of my courses for the semester to the best of my ability.
I have made arrangements to go through treatment this summer which I believe will provide me with the tools and skills I need to prevent this situation from re-occurring. I have not yet started treatment as it can be very intensive and going through it while dealing with the stresses of school could lead to even further impairment. However, I was able to speak to my student-wellness counselor about this matter and have set up a follow-up appointment to monitor my progress.
Overall, allowing me to drop one of my current courses will have a positive influence on my mental health and my academic success this semester and for the remainder of my academic career. I hope that you take my request into consideration.
Thank you so much for your time.
Sincerely,
Danae Damianou (10058583)
