Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am appealing to add STAT 263 (Summer, 2017) after the summer course registration deadline in order to take the course again, and improve my final grade and overall GPA.
I was initially unsure that I would be financially able to take summer courses, but finally decided to take two courses on the last day of registration, one of which I am currently enrolled in. Unfortunately, at the time, STAT 263 was already full, so I was unable to register for it. Space in the course has since then been made available, so I was hoping to be able to enroll in it now, if possible.
The reason I have decided to retake STAT 263 is because I did very poorly in it throughout the winter semester (and, in retrospect, should have dropped it earlier on). My initial performance was a result of not having properly managed my time and not gaining a deep enough understanding of the material. I was also unhappy with my current academic plan, so this contributed to my serious lack of motivation.
I feel, however, very confident that I can substantially improve my final grade with proper time management and help from a friend who has a graduate degree in statistics. Additionally, in the long run, I am thinking of switching to a program that is less mathematics intensive and has an emphasis on writing and critical thinking, as this is the area where I perform best.
Thank you for taking the time to review my request.
Sincerely,
Darina Merkulova.
