Petition Letter
Dr. Reznick,
I am writing to you to appeal the final grade I received due to not passing my final exam as a result of extenuating circumstances. I am a non degree interest student in Health Sciences with a goal to enter the program once my prerequisites are done.
I started the program in January 2017, and absolutely love the program. This shows in my class work and class marks. However, at the time of starting the program I lived with a partner who became ill. In March I started seeking treatment for anxiety brought on by my partners illness and trying to cope with that. Around the time of my final coursework presentations and exams, my partner walked out to not return and I was told I had 48 hours to move myself and my belongings out of our shared dwelling. I quickly moved my stuff back to my parents place without much notice. I went into a depression, and would have anxiety attacks constantly. I started to see my therapist twice a week and was on call should I have an emergency. Up until then my grades were A's. I was proud of the grades I was receiving. I tried my best and studied the hardest I could for the exam. I was shocked to see that I had received such a low grade on the exam that my mark dropped to a c-. This grade, if not appealed, wont allow me to continue into the program. This is my dream and my passion. Had I not had to deal with a mental health breakdown in addition to being blindsided I wouldn't have failed my exam.
I am willing to redo the entire class. I would just like that the final grade of a c- not be a deciding factor for me to continue into the program. As I previously stated, my grades prior to the exam were promising. I know the content of the class, and am passionate about this degree program.
