Petition Letter
I am writing this appeal to request that I may complete my final elective courses at Athabasca University (on-line). I am in my final year of my Bachelor of Music degree with only 18 units (6 courses) to complete. My Academic Advisement Report states that I need 6 units (2 courses) to complete the minimum of 36 units in any subject from the ASC_Courses Catelogue list at the 300 level or above, 6 units (2 courses) to complete the minimum of 18 units in non MUSC courses and a final 6 units (2 courses) to complete the overall 126 units of my BMUS Specific Plan requirements for a total of 18 units (6 courses) to complete. My husband Robert Chidwick will be finishing his thesis for his Masters of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering at Queens by the end of September and will hopefully defend in October. We will be moving shortly after that and therefore I need to finish my degree by taking online courses.
Currently I am unable to complete my degree by taking the Continuing and Distance Studies online courses Queens is offering due to the fact that I don¿¿t have the prerequisites to fulfill the 300-400 level courses that are being offered. Taking all the remaining electives at AU will allow me to study and learn at my own pace. Due to my learning disability, having enough time to read the course material, complete assignments and essays, have always been a struggle for me. As AU allows a 3 unit course six months to be completed, I will be given the chance to work at a pace that will benefit me the most. Due to my past experience with taking too many courses at a single time and the negative stressful effects that this has on my learning, I will only be taking three courses at a time.
I hope that you will grant my appeal and provide me with a letter of permission that allows me to take my final elective courses via Athabasca University on-line.
Thank you for considering my request
