To the Associate Dean (Studies):
I am appealing to have two online courses added for the Fall 2017 term after the deadline to add courses. The courses I would like to add are ANAT 100 and PHAR 100.
I am a third year student completing a major in Biochemistry and a minor in Physics. I have decided that due to extenuating challenges being back at school with a full course load, that I need to take some time off school and be at home (not in Kingston). My experience in second year was extremely challenging mentally. Although I was able to obtain good marks in the courses I took in second year, the demands of the course load, struggling with my anxiety and being three hours away from home took a very large toll on my mental health. Although it was rehabilitating being home for the summer and working full-time, I still do not feel that I can continue to take a full course load here in Kingston. I feel that at the moment, the best plan of action for maintaining my mental health is to be living from home at least for one semester (Fall 2017) with a much lighter course load. I would like the opportunity to take two online courses from home to continue completing my degree during my time away.
I understand that this semester off will hinder my course plan; however, I have organized the courses I need to complete my Biochemistry major and Physics minor and have concluded that, with taking the two online courses during the Fall 2017 term, I will be able to graduate by December 2019 as opposed to April 2019.
Although I have missed two weeks of these online courses, I am confident that I will be able to catch up quickly and do well in these courses. I believe that I have a strong work ethic and am motivated to excel so catching up should not hinder me from doing well in these courses.
I appreciate your consideration in allowing me to present this appeal.
Thank you for your time,
Bryn Evans
