Petition Letter
Date: Sept 22nd Aug 2014
Arts & Science Appeal Committee
Queen¿¿s University
Dear Associate Dean and Appeal Committee:
I am writing to retroactively withdraw with extenuating circumstances from courses for the 2014 winter term, specifically Math 121, Econ 222, and Econ 212.
On April 3rd I was struck by a taxi at Union and University while on my longboard home. I did not think I had been seriously injured, but after consulting the Queen¿¿s doctors several times I was told that I had in fact received a very serious concussion.
Due to the accident and resulting injuries, and with the advice of the counselors at Queen¿¿s, I delayed my exams until September, and one in December.
It was only after several months that I realized the extent to which the accident has affected my body and mind, and the damage it has caused. Over the past four months I have continually met with doctors and counselors and though my recovery has been quite promising, it has only been recently that I have been able to perform focused study of any kind or length of time.
For this reason I am unable to write my exams and complete my courses from the previous year. I have attached a letter from both my doctor and therapist.
I am planning to resume my studies this fall with a reduced course load, but I am requesting a retroactive withdrawal under extenuating circumstances, and whatever assistance is available to aid me in completing my studies at Queens.
Thank you very much for looking at this appeal
Sincerely,
Tobias Macfarlane
