Petition Letter
Hi,
I am Lucas Yao, I'm writing this letter to apply for waiving the 21-day or one term deadline.
I have been aware of that my STAT 263's final does not well represent my factual level of understanding since I finished its final exam in last winter term, but I just got the information about academic appeal by consulting Art&Sci Office a month ago (in Jan). I shall explain my circumstances in detail:
I began my school at Queen's in the last winter semester. I did't go to the orientation because there's not one in winter, so I relatively lack of knowledge about on campus service. My grandfather past away in this year April when it's close to my final exams. It directly resulted in my underperformance in STAT 263 exam which took a high percentage in this course's grading. Even though I did well in my previous works, this incident impacted me a lot. As the last semester ended, I began to travel around world to meet with my family in China and started my summer job. I was recovering from the sorrow of losing my grandfather, while in contact with the ministry of labour dealing with my wage issues with a restaurant I previously worked as a part-time job (see the claim attached in the back). These conditions distracted me from evaluating my school results.
After coming back to school in this September, I dedicated myself in the AMS High School Liaison Committee, in the student government fulfilling my duties in the sponsorship team specifically. I was also working hard on my courses, so I didn't pay much attention to my problem in last semester. It was until I talked with Mrs. Kilminster (an art&sci academic counsellor) in this November regarding my academic plan, I got to know that I could appeal the grade which poorly represents my true level of understanding. I was also inferred that the deadline for appeal a winter-term couse has passed, so that¿¿s the reason I'm writing for appeal requesting to waive the one term deadline. I think making my effort worthwhile and fully presenting academic understanding are crucial for achieving academic success.
