Petition Letter
I am appealing to add a course (CWRI 294; class number: 4075; section 001-SEM Regular) past the last day to add classes. A hold on my solus account (senate sanction block) was the reason I could not add the course before the deadline. This senate sanction block occurred because my fall 2017 tuition went unpaid. The reason I could not make my fall tuition payment begins with the extenuating circumstance that occurred in my 2016-17 academic year wherein I became severely mentally ill. My condition necessitated the dropping of 4 courses and the equivalent of 5 other courses being accommodated for. I was put on OSAP probation due to the incompletion (in my 2016-17 academic year) of a certain number of credits needed to maintain my eligibility for future OSAP funding. The time it took for my letter of explanation (of my extenuating circumstance) to be reviewed, for my probation to be lifted, and updates on my OSAP application and status to be made lead to it being too late to receive funding for Fall 2017. I was therefore granted OSAP funding after I submitted a full-time application for the 2018 Winter term. I was expecting, based on the status of my OSAP funding and its estimated release date, to receive my winter term funding before the last day to add classes, thus pay my tuition fees, lift the senate sanction block, and add CWRI 294 before the deadline. The release of my funding got delayed, however, due to complications at the National Student Loans Service Centre that I was not made aware of. The delay has now been addressed and my appeal to register in a course with debt has been approved while I await the release of my funding to pay my 2017-18 tuition fees in full. Supporting documentation is attached.
