Petition Letter
To whom this may concern,
I am writing this appeal to request that my current Incomplete standing in Psych 271 from the fall of 2017 (Professor Dr. Tyson Baker) be considered for aegrotat standing instead.
I had appealed to have my final exams from last semester deferred to this winter semester with the expectation that I could manage all of it as I took a reduced course load this semester. Unfortunately, I have been dealing with continuing mental health issues (the same ones that made me defer in the first place) and have found this semester just as challenging as the last. My accommodations would show you that I have actually taken more this semester due to my increased and prolonged mental health problems.
I try to remain proactive about my issues though and I try to maintain communication with my advisor, psychiatrist, and professors to work out what is possible for me. With that, I have written one of the deferred finals, and I am scheduled to write another one on Monday the 16th as well as I have my 3 current course finals scheduled. I realize now, perhaps too late, that this may have been a bit much for me to take on but I really wanted to graduate on time if possible.
If I could be granted the credits for Psych 271 then I would be able to stay on track for graduation this Spring, which I think is very important for me right now in that my mental health needs it. Over the last three years I have been in and out of functionality and I hope that with this last burst of energy and concentration this semester that maybe I can begin to move on to things more well suited for my current state. I have appreciated my time at Queen's dearly, and I have learned so much not only about academics but myself and I hope to be able to walk away with my head up high feeling accomplished having achieved this degree instead of getting defeated by it and walking away with nothing to show for my time here.
Thank you kindly,
Jamie-Lee Deschenes
