Petition Letter
The opportunity to study aboard is very exciting. I am an outgoing, outwardly focused, hardworking and energetic person and I believe that I am well suited for the International Study Abroad Program and all it has to offer. I have always loved to travel and explore new places and learn about new cultures and lands. I strongly believe that in this age of global uncertainty a greater understanding and respect for other countries and cultures is increasingly critical. This program is a wonderful opportunity for young adults from around the world to come together, exchange ideas and learn. I have been fortunate to travel to many places, including Africa, India, South America, and Western and Eastern Europe; however, I have not been to Australia. I love the outdoors and Australia offers incredible opportunities to connect with nature including the beautiful beaches in Australia such as Mission beach or Surfers Paradise, snorkeling or scuba diving in the famous Great barrier reef, and hiking through the Blue Mountains. I would plan to travel across the continent getting to know Kadkadua national park and the Three Sisters rock formation in Australia.
I hope to go on exchange to Australia in the winter semester of 2019 because it is an English-speaking country where I can maximize my experience in a familiar language. I am currently working towards my degree in Honors Specialization in Psychology and Drama, with a Bachelor of Education. In order to complete this degree, I will take the mandatory psychology and drama courses, as well as fulfill other electives. I would love to travel to The University of New South Wales because of the wide range of courses that are offered. In particular, the courses that I would be interested in taking are Psychology 3331 Health psychology and Psychology 3301 Psychology and Law. These unique combinations of subjects are not offered here at Queen¿¿s which is why going to The University of New South Wales would provide me with a brand new academic understanding. I have also spoken to both of my department heads to ensure my academic plan is on track for when I get back in 4th year.
The International Study Abroad Program is a great privilege; and with this privilege comes the responsibility to be open to new experiences, forge new friendships and learn as much as I can about another land, its peoples and their cultures. This experience would help me to establish my role as a global citizen. I would then do my part to make the world a more tolerant, accepting place. I would incorporate these lessons into my teaching one day. I believe I possess the passion, determination and temperament to be successful as an exchange student and achieve the goals outlined.
