Petition Letter
I am appealing to late drop ENG 259 (Global Shakespeare CDS F17). My extenuating circumstances stem from a car accident that occurred on March 23rd, 2017. I was hit by a car while crossing a street and sustained a traumatic brain injury along with several other physical injuries. For the majority of the fall term, I was able to complete my assignments and readings without too much difficulty. However, around late November, I began to experience dizzy spells, frequent migraines, excessive fatigue, and anxiety. Overall, I experienced a significant decrease in my cognitive and focus abilities. This impacted my ability to finish my final essay, and to complete my end-of-term exam. I did not have the mental or physical capacity to do so. I believe that it would be very unfortunate if I were to come away from this course with a failing grade, as I worked very hard to finish the many readings and plays that were being given out each week. I wasn¿¿t correct in how much I could handle during my recovery from the accident. The brain injury fluctuates in severity at random intervals, and I was warned that this might be the case by doctors that treated me, as brain injuries are unpredictable.
