Re: Request to extend an incomplete
Dear Associate Dean,
I am appealing to extend my incomplete grade in BIOL 103 from Winter 2014.
Regarding the initial extension, only BIOL 103 was affected because the extenuating circumstance had occurred on the morning of the exam, and I had a week to recover before my next exam for SPAN 112. My first exam had been for PSYC 100, which was exactly a week prior to BIOL 103.
When I had requested for the initial extension, the form I signed did not have a date for completion, as you may see on the copy of the signed document on my file. The course instructor, Robert Snetsinger, had mentioned that I would have a year to complete the course and that I could write the exam in the first week of September; however, I had requested to write over the summer.
Over the summer, I experienced two independent medical situations that directly affected my studies. I had planned to study for BIOL 103 in July and August as I was taking a summer course in May and June while volunteering part-time. The first medical issue occurred in July, due to severe side effects from changes in medication, which affected my mood, ability to concentrate, and induced fatigue. The second medical issue occurred at the end of July and continued into August where I had an infection that caused abdominal pain and fatigue, consequently affecting my studies. Both medical issues have improved, and I am able to resume to being a full-time student this semester.
I am requesting to have until the following semester to complete BIOL 103 as I am currently taking on a full course load. I have spoken with my instructor, Robert Snetsinger, and he has expressed support for my request. I am confident in completing the remainder of BIOL 103 as I have already put a considerable amount of effort into the course, and the final assignment is nearly done for submission. Completing this course is important to me because I would like to have the option of switching into a science Psychology program. Should my appeal be granted, I plan on taking a reduced course load next semester in order to successfully complete BIOL 103.
