Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Crow,
My name is Larissa Dusang and I just completed my first year at Queen¿¿s in the arts science faculty. Unfortunately, due to my Crohn¿¿s disease my final marks in my courses were not what I hoped they would be. I failed math 121, and I received a D+ in chemistry 112, and a D- in biology 103. I am appealing to drop math 121, and to CR chemistry 112, and biology 103.
My Crohn¿¿s disease flared up this year after the deadline to drop the course had already passed. I control my Crohn¿¿s with diet, and unfortunately the cafeteria food was aggravating it. Although I had met with a chef and did my best to avoid inflammatory foods, eventually I still felt the effects of the food. Crohn¿¿s flares up suddenly and there are not any warning signs that I would notice prior to the flare. Crohn¿¿s disease affects many parts of my life. I have trouble concentrating, am constantly nauseous, throwing up, exhausted, and experiencing headaches and flu like symptoms. I was unable to get out of bed some days because I was so sick. I found myself struggling to catch up with work and readings, because I was constantly sick and tired. The impact that my disease had on the outcome of my gpa was immense, and I am certain that I am able to achieve much higher grades.
Fortunately next year I will be living off residence and will be able to cook for myself. This will be extremely helpful in achieving my best grades possible. I am living at home for the summer and I can already feel the positive effects of cooking for myself. I intend to retake biology 103 and am certain that I can do much better in good health.
