Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean of Arts and Science
I am appealing the Faculty¿¿s decision that I must withdraw from Queen¿¿s for a minimum of one year.
My main reason on not doing so good on my exams and my course is that unfortunately my grandma had passed away on April 1st 2018 and that happened so fast and so close to my exams she passed away in my home country Iran so I couldn't even go to her funeral due to being close to my exams.
When that happened I realized that I couldn't focus and my studies and it resulted in the poor performance of me and not maintaining the minimum required average.
There was not much I could have tried or done because of how sudden that happened and how close it was to exams, I was so stressed about my exams that I didn't have time for a counsellor and I was trying to study and focus on my school work. However now I know that was the right move and I shouldn't have done that.
Also my biggest problem during the whole year was that I was struggling a lot with the english language and unfortunately due to not having the right guidance I took 2 courses (Astronomy 101 and Hlth 102) that required a lot of essays and all the time Ive lost a lot of marks due to grammar mistakes, I know I could have dropped them by week 8 but I again due to wrong high school guidance I always thought I need 24 credits so I can make it into 2nd year.
Both of these aspects just made me not to do as good as I should have done or couldn't have done the past year. however , my plans for the future would be the hopefully comeback to queens next year and take less courses a semester and also retake all my failed courses and other courses and also finished the year with maintaining at least a 2.7 Gpa and hopefully specializing in life science and if needed having regular meeting with a counselor to reach my goal.
I also dont know what kind of documents you are looking for that it could show proof of the facts that i stated above I would really appreciate it if you could let me know if I need to submit any
Regards,
Amir Moradi
