Petition Letter
To Dr. Jill Aktinson or whom it may concern,
I am appealing to join BCHM218 for the May-July 2018 semester after the official date for adding courses.
The reason for adding the class late is that the class needs to be retaken and the marks were not received until after the date to add classes. I took the class during the winter semester 2018 and failed the course. However, I was travelling and was out of the country when grades were released. When I got home, I found out that I failed the class, but it was too late to join the summer semester. It is a prerequisite for my third-year biochemistry classes so I need to take it before the fall semester starts. In order to avoid needing to complete a fifth year of university, it is very important that I can complete this course during the summer. I have already received approval from Denise Cameron (Biochemistry program assistant), John Allingham (Biochemistry Undergraduate Coordinator and BCHM218 Course instructor), and the Queen's Biochemistry department to join the course past the official date to add courses.
I should not have a problem achieving academic success if I take the course during the summer, considering I have already taken the course and understand which steps to take in order to succeed. Also, not having the additional stress of 4 other courses in concurrence will be beneficial when it comes to finding time to study. This is a major advantage, considering I had to pile more of my courses in the semester that I previously took BCHM218 during, due to a class I was required to take being full during the other semester. This course overload may have been instrumental in my failure of the course. In addition, I will be hiring a tutor who has already done well in the course to help guide me in the right direction when it comes to studying for the course.
If you need any more information or proof of the permission from the biochemistry department, feel free to contact me. Also, if there is someone else I should be contacting in order to solve this issue, please let me know.
Thank you for your consideration.
