Petition Letter
Hi, I am writing this letter for appealing the Faculty's decision that I must withdraw from Queens for one year. My name is Shiyao(Gary) Wang, student number 20013733 and this year is my second year in Queens. The reason I am got the decision for withdraw is I failed to meet the 1.6 GPA in the end of this term since I already had an academic probation in the first year. I think I have some improvement, I got 2.35 in the first term and 1.65 from the second term this year. I also strongly believe my GPA in the second term will goes up to at least 2.3 after I take the deferred exam (I deferred my CISC 102 final exam due to an emergency health condition) in September. I know my grade is extremely low right now, but I do have faith that I can, and I will be better in my future academic career.
I really do not want to use this as an excuse, but one of the most important reason made me almost failed 50 of my courses in first year was my best friend since grade 10, Rachel Zhang, also a student from Queens University, dead from a car accident in Toronto on November 18th, 2016. I couldn not accept her death and I was so afraid to go back to Kingston because everywhere I go will keeping reminding me that she will never come back. I missed lots of courses and I was so suffering during that time which lead me to a very shameful grade, 0.88 GPA.
Luckily, I am getting much better and start to come back to Queens community from the beginning of my second year. I did have some improvement but I did not know it is still not enough get brings up my overall GPA from 0.88 to 1.6. I did a lots of things to help myself to went through the pain of losing Rachael. I also started a business in Toronto that Rachael and I wanted to do after we graduated. The name for the business is WashUp, it is a mobile auto detailing services. My company went to the Toronto Auto Show in March, I started a cooperation with RBC drive.ca, my company also got accepted by York Schulich Entrepreneurship Development Institute Incubator Program a few weeks ago.
I know study should always be my first and main goal as a student, but I just want to prove that I do have ability to do a better job in my academic career in the future. I hope you can give another chance and let me stay in Queens community next year. I will show you that you did not trust the wrong guy.
