RE: Requirement to withdraw for one year
My name is Yini xie. I am appealing to waive the Requirement to Withdraw for One Year. My time at Queen's is my first time being in Canada alone. Prior to Queen's, my mother was with me. In my first year at Queen's University, I chose to take MATH 121, BIO 102, BIO103, CHEM 112, PHY 117 and JPAN 100, without discussing with my advisor about the course selection and I picked very difficult courses during a difficult time of adjustment.
In my second year, I changed my course selection to better assist in achieving the grades necessary to remove me from academic probation. In second year, my first term GPA was 1.68, but my cumulative GPA only have 1.16, so I spoke with an A&S advisor, and I was told that if a student made great progress, school would be willing to give students an another chance. In the second term, I was working hard to improve my marks. I spent a lot of time in library, and I booked study rooms to study with students who had good scores. In the end of my second term (w2018), my enrollment GPA was 1.82, and my cumulative GPA was 1.34.
I believe that I have demonstrated that I am able to work hard and achieve good marks and although there were some difficulties this year, I have made great strides and would be very appreciative of an opportunity to keep up the positive momentum.
I am currently enrolled in summer courses and I am hopeful that WRIT 125 can improve my English writing skills as I am an international student and had some difficulties in English.
In the past period of time since all of this has happened, I have engaged in self-analysis and evaluation and I have found that there are several issues that need to be addressed for my learning situation:
1. Ask for TAs for assistance.
2. Limit my courses to no more than four per term.
3. Seeking assistance from campus resources like The Learning Commons, Writing Centre or the Learning Strategies Counsellors.
4. Join a study groups and connect with a tutor or peer mentor.
(please find the attached Academic Plan as reference)
I will continue to work hard toward my educational goals and would be grateful if you would consider this appeal.
Sincerely,
Yini Xie
