Petition Letter
Attention: Associate Dean of Bachelor of Arts - Global Development
Queens University
Kingston, Ontario
Tuesday August 28th 2018,
I am writing to you today to request an appeal to exclude the following courses from my GPA, DEVS 230, ENGL 100B, and LLCU 249 from Winter 2018 Semester.
The reason that I am requesting this appeal is because during that semester I experienced two unforeseen changes that affected my academic performance. One was a personal event that was beyond my control causing a lot of stress and made my studying atmosphere difficult. The second was that I no longer had the tools to complete my online courses on time. The personal event took place from week 2 to week 5 of the semester. The second circumstance took place from week 8 until the end of the semester. During this time, I had to seek help and support from family and friends. To deal with these two situations I had to increase employment and reevaluate my education plans.
To achieve academic success, I have spent the summer holidays saving financially to deal with any issues that may occur. I have also been able to find a secure and quite place to complete my studying for the future semesters. I also plan to take less courses as I feel that will make me more successful. I only have 18 more credits until I can graduate from Queens University. I have also been consulting with my Distant Education advisor which has been a great help so far.
Thank you,
Shantel Plummer
