Petition Letter
To the associate dean,
I am appealing to add two courses; FREN 343 and FREN 342, after the last official date for adding classes. I am a fourth year French major, and both FREN 343 and FREN 342 are mandatory courses for completing my degree. FREN 343 is offered in the fall semester and FREN 342 is offered in the winter semester.
This summer, I took an online course through Queen's. Due to my financial situation, and the fact that this was an unusual fee, I failed to pay my tuition on time, for which I take full responsibility.
Unfortunately due to this late payment, I was prevented from enrolling in any courses in the both the Fall and Winter terms until a later date, at which point FREN 343 and FREN 342 were full. Since returning to Queen's I have spoken to the office assistant, Julie Viau in the French department, as well as an Arts and Science academic advisor, who both told me my only option was to remain on the waitlists and keep checking SOLUS.
On September 19th, the last date to add classes, I reached out to the French department one more time to attempt to enrol in FREN 343. At this point, the Ms. Viau informed me I could talk to the professor of FREN 343, Michael Reyes, directly. After explaining my situation to Prof. Reyes, he gave me permission to enrol in his class, despite the fact that the class is at capacity, however since it was now past September 19th, Ms. Viau was unable to add me to the class list.
I take full responsibility for my situation, however I sincerely hope given the fact that I am a fourth year student with permission from the professor, that you would consider allowing me to enrol in FREN 343. If there is any way I would also be able to enrol in FREN 342 for next semester, I would be very grateful.
Thank you for your time,
