Petition Letter
I am appealing to drop PSYC 342 (Fall 2018) due to an unforeseen medical condition that has been directly affected my academic performance. Since April of 2018, I have been struggling to keep up with my academics as I asked for a final exam to be moved to September of 2018 due to how severe my condition had gotten. I continued to struggle throughout the summer and well into the new semester, and due to the stress of trying to boost my GPA my condition worsened and began occurring more frequently; approximately every 12 days I would fall extremely ill. The most recent occurrence was October 23nd when an important assignment was due, and I could not complete it. I¿¿ve asked for many extensions and accommodations but unfortunately, I still find myself struggling to complete tasks on time. Because of these circumstances, I have not been performing to my best ability in my classes, specifically PSYC 342. It has been extremely difficult trying to study and complete the readings in this class while trying to balance 3 other courses and taking care of my health. Furthermore, whenever my conditioned occurred I would lose many hours and sometimes days recovering in the emergency rooms of hospitals, talking to doctors about treatment plans and steps to take in the future. Due to this, it would make it almost impossible to work on assignments and study for exams. This resulted in a very low mark in PSYC 342, one that would be too difficult to bring up to a passing grade. I would have dropped the course earlier than the deadline but due to my health being affected around the same time I was in no condition to deal with this.
My plan is to retake PSYC 342 during the next time it is available, whether it be online next semester, in the summer or next year. Furthermore, I have set up a plan with my doctor that will require a tonsillectomy in February 2019 which will stop my condition from occurring so often. However, despite these extenuating circumstances my academic goals remain the same, to graduate in 2020.
