Petition Letter
Hi,
Here is some more information to aid with my case of appealing my D - grade for DEVS 100.
In the summer there were some misunderstandings with the professor Mr. Kumar, where I had emailed him 5+ times and received no response. Due to this, he graded all my work 0. I ended up having to deal with the Associate Dean of Arts and Science Accommodations who agreed with me that there was a misunderstanding between myself and my teacher and that my work did not merit a 0, considering I completed it. Now, I have just reviewed my course grade through the SOLUS. It previously had a block on it due to debt from last semester, so I wasn't able to see my grade before. I have just gotten an approval to register for Winter 2019 with debt, due to some health circumstances I have faced in the summer.
During the summer course when I faced extenuating circumstances, I continuously emailed Mr.Kumar for updates on when I would submit work and asked for extensions and I never received a response. Although I previously dealt with the Associate Dean for this matter to undo the 0 grade that I received for my completed assignments, here was a copy of the information I provided in the summer:
Some circumstances over the past 2 months have made my life extremely hectic and I have been unable to complete some assignments on time. As these circumstances have been out of my control, I really don't want to penalized for late submissions.
I live in the US for the winter as I am a pro golfer, and was planning on moving back to Canada on May 31st, as our Canadian home was being rented until that date. I am the primary caregiver to my grandmother who has Alzheimer's, and on Saturday May 19 her Nursing home called and said she had extreme pain and as she doesn't speak English, no one was able to understand what she needed. My mother and I drove 24 hours over 2 days to return early, even though our home was occupied with tenants, to help my grandmother.
My mother and I moved in with my brother (he's 34) expecting to live in small apartment with the 3 of us for one week. It turns out the place that our tenants were suppose to move into was still under construction by June 1st, and our tenants occupied our home until July 1st. This home environment was difficult to live in as my brother has very different work schedules and would keep me up most of the night as I lived in the living room.
To make matters worse, on June 12 I got into a car accident with my brothers car. I had no serious injuries, but it was a traumatic event where I was severely unable to focus and do anything except for go to my mandatory training.
As mentioned being my grandma's primary caregiver, I take care of her every single day at the nursing home. My golf practice, car accident and taking care of my grandma made me unable to complete my midterm exam on June 15th.
I had a big tournament, the PGA of Championship of Canada on July 3-5, so I wasn't able to take any weeks off as I had to practice and train to make sure I was prepared for the event. It was during that week I attempted to complete some work but it was around 45 degrees that week and my full day's spent outside made it difficult to be able to do any school work in the short time I was at home in the evenings.
Then on July 9th, when I was with my grandma in the nursing home, I had to call the emergency and take her to the hospital as she passed out. She had severely low blood pressure and a kidney failure due to some medication and for the next week I was at the nursing home every day to make sure her blood pressure levels were normal.
My days consist of waking up early, going to practice and train for most of the day, then going to my grandma's nursing home and taking care of her, and then coming home in the evening. If the past few months haven't been so hectic I would have been able to do some school work in the evening but these circumstances have created a lot of anxiety, stress and have prevented me from submitted assignments on time.
I'm very committed to submitting all my assignments and have kept my instructor Mr. Kumar updated with everything.
The Associate Dean and I spoke on the phone in the summer and she concluded that there was a misunderstanding between myself and Mr. Kumar, as he never responded to my frequent emails but expected me to contact Accommodations directly, which I didn't know about.
I completed 90+ of the work, and don't believe the grades I have received for those assignments merit a D-. I was never contacted in regards to what penalties I would receive for each assignment, if any. Therefore, I find it unfair to receive a D - when I believe my work merited a higher mark.
Through the documentation in the next step, I will attach a document I have written with course assignments, their graded worth and my assignment grade. The assignments in RED writing are the ones that I am appealing for, as I don't believe they merited a D - grade. The document is titled Grades for Canada and The Third World Appeal. I can provide the documents of every assignment I'm looking to appeal.
Thank you so much for your consideration.
