Dear Ms. Stephenson:
Re: Appeal; drop courses past week 8 ¿¿ Fall 2018 term
I am appealing to drop the courses LING 100 (Fall, 2018), CLST 102 (Fall, 2018), GRM 101 (Fall, 2018) and LLCU 111 (Fall, 2018).
Through the Fall semester I experienced a relapse of a medical disability that had been registered with QSAS. My health began declining in October 2018 eventually leading me to no longer be able to attend classes by the beginning of November. The severity of the condition had been worse than previously experienced and previous plans of action towards treatment became fruitless. The severity increased drastically towards the beginning of November which lead to school becoming too much to handle and having to step away for a bit. These extenuating circumstances caused me to not be able to attend class or exams and also prevented me from turning in assignments in a timely manner. Continuing, the severity of the circumstances left me unable to reach out to professors or other on campus supports. I am currently dealing with these extenuating circumstances by visiting doctors and also on campus supports such as academic advising and advising from my QSAS counsellor, Meg Hall. Consultations with health care professionals also continued once a month for the entirety of the Fall 2018 semester. The courses that I was taking could not be dropped earlier since my condition had rendered me too unwell to do much of anything at the time.
To prevent any sort of potential relapse from occurring I have been working more closely with my doctors as well as campus resources such as QSAS. My medical treatment plan has been altered to help prevent any future relapses. I plan to take courses over the Summer 2019 semester to make up for my absence during the Fall 2018 semester. I have also dropped my course to a part time load as to prevent any major stress that may trigger another relapse of my condition. All these future plans will be used to help me achieve my academic goals at Queen¿¿s.
