Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
My name is Tiffani Tolley and I am writing to you to appeal a grade I received in PSYC 100 in the summer 2014 term. I received a grade F in PSYC 100 although I did not participate in the course and was unaware I was enrolled.Due to some family health issues that have arose I was unable to complete this appeal within the 21 day time frame. At this point I also had been email corresponding with the Queens Ombuds seeking direction in the appeal process. I had to take a personal trip home to Ontario to visit and try to help my brother with a health issue my Grandmother had that landed her in the hospital for a few days. Although things are still a bit rough I need to focus on my education and complete the appeal in order to move forward.
Starting December 10th 2013 until August 22nd 2014 I had been in contact with the academic adviser David Yousself, corresponding via email. David had provided me with information regarding the Psychology distance education and how I would start the application process. I had decided to start in the summer 2014 term. Upon applying I noticed the dates of the course would fall on a personal trip. Therefore I emailed Mr Yousself asking for his advice on rather or not I should wait till the fall as I was unsure of how demanding the course via distance would be. Mr Yousself suggested that I wait till fall to ensure the course had my full attention. Taking his advice into consideration I decided to be deferred until the fall term. I had asked Mr. Yousself how I would go about doing this or if I would be required to re-apply in the fall. He responded telling me that as long as I accepted my offer in souls I would not have to re-apply and to get back to him late august to get enrolled in courses. I accepted my offer in souls and on August 11th 2014 I emailed Mr.Yousself asking for some guidance in enrolling in courses. Mr.Yousself had responded asking if I could explain why I was given an F in PSYC 100. On August 22nd 2014 I received an email from Mr. Yousself stating If you enrolled in it (or applied for it and got accepted) you were in the course and sounds like you didn't think you were. When email corresponding with Mr.Yousself previously he had not informed me of this.
I am very interested in completing my B.A in Psychology before obtaining a degree in Social Work. Due to receiving a fail in PSYC 100, a course I did not participate in I am now be hide in achieving my educational goals. I strongly would like to have this grade cleared from the transcripts so I could continue courses in the winter term.
Thank you for your time and look forward to hearing from you,
Sincerely,
Tiffani Tolley.
