Appeal Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
How are you
I am Yanzhi Wang (20056978). I am appealing to drop ENIN 140 (Winter, 2019).
In the past few years, my mental state has been consistently down. I do not think it is a good mood to live and study. So, in the fall of 2018, I have booked an appointment with my personal counsellor to take the psychotherapy sessions. I have completed six psychotherapy sessions from October 21 to December 16. Since it was the end of the semester, I thought that I was getting better. Also, because I needed to go back home and my parent did not know that I am taking psychotherapy sessions, I stopped the sessions. However, I felt depressed again not only because of the anxiety of staring the new semester, but also, the most important reason is that my boyfriend and I broke up at the beginning of February. It makes me feel worse than before that I even do not want to see the counsellor. In addition, ENIN 140 is an online course that I do not know how to have good communication with the instructor, Sidneyeve Matrix. And I do not have a good understanding of the requirements for the first assignment that is due on February 8, which is worth 35 of the total grade. As a result, I handed in my assignment late and I only got an F (24). And for the first quiz, I got 58. It is impossible to pass the course. So, I want to drop the course. However, all the grades of the assignments and quizzes are updated after March 10. The grade of the first assignment is updated on March 15, and the grade of the first quiz is updated between March 10 to March 15. It causes me to do not drop the course earlier. When I got the grade, I decided to drop the course, but it is still too late. I wasted the time on being anxious for a couple of days and did nothing until the office supervisor suggested me to submit an appeal.
After I have talked with my parents and friends, I have gotten over the sadness of breakup. And I am trying to make myself be happy. For my future plan, my friend and I will go to the UK for studying and travelling during the summer, hopefully, I will cultivate a positive mindset. Also, after I come back from the UK, my parents have already booked an appointment with a different psychological counsellor for me, to help me come over the stress and depression.
In terms of selecting courses, I think I will not take any online course because I cannot handle it. For other courses, I will still try my best to learn.
Sincerely,
Yanzhi
