Petition Letter
Hello,
This school term I was met with a couple of extenuating circumstances that triggered a long period of intense anxiety. At the start of fall term, I discovered my rental had bed bugs and that my landlord had no intentions of remedying the situation. I had to find new housing, research how to not bring the infestation with me and arrange it. That set me quite behind as I was preoccupied with meeting the primary needs of having shelter for the first month of school. Unfortunately, even after the use of a professional exterminator I still found bed bugs on my belongings in my new apartment. Some sprays later and I thought I was in the clear. However, I wasn't since I kept finding them here and there.
Winter 2019 semester, I thought I was done with all those things until my cat had a life threatening condition and I had to bring her to a specialist hospital in an emergency. The amount of time this took was supposed to be 3 days, however her condition become a 1.5 month (March-April) long ordeal. This bill was not cheap and so I became very worried about finances, especially with the Ford administration's new policies coming. Since I have a bad relationship with my family, I would need to figure out a way to support myself after the financial losses of bed bugs and vet bills.
During this whole time it was really hard to regularly see my therapist, exercise and prioritise the things I needed to do to keep my anxiety at bay. I lost a lot of sleep and my focus was shot.School was impossible to prioritise when I needed to focus on finances, housing and making sure I would not have to move back home/ could afford my final year of school.
I am now seeing a therapist and trying to get myself back on my feet since I finally have some time to focus on self care.
Thanks,
Jessica
